All season the Rowan Women’s Lacrosse team has dominated, and it does not seem like they are finished quite yet.
Just before their NJAC (New Jersey Athletic Conference) Semi-Finals game against rival Montclair, this team was ranked in their third NCAA Region Rankings.
The national selection committee uses these rankings when determining the bracket for the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. Currently the Brown and Gold stands in seventh place.
The day before the game I spoke with senior Jess Havers and sophomore Julia Grlica on their thoughts of the big game. There was a definitive combination of nerves and excitement. However, there was also a strong sense of confidence from both of these athletes which came out both during the interview, and especially on the field.
Second seed Rowan took down three-seed Montclair with a 13-9 win on Wednesday Night.
Attack Maddie Bray came ready to win scoring five goals throughout the game. But she could not have done it without the help of her friends. Midfielders Liz Kramer and Taylor Gretz each scored three goals, Kramer also contributing with three assists. And Attacks Ashley Lechliter and Elise Cohan each added one goal.
Goalie Reilly Shaup had six saves throughout the game.
This win is not only exciting, but also ironic. Last season, almost a year-ago to the day, the 2018 team of Prof’s won against the Montclair Hawk’s 15-9 to advance to the conference championship game.
In both the 2018 and 2019 season after taking down Montclair Rowan will match up against top seed The College of New Jersey. Hopefully, from here on out this season is not too identical to last. In 2018 TCNJ dominated Rowan 20-9 to win the conference championship.
These Lady Prof’s however just got some extra motivation.
Coming off of their win, five of the team’s players were honored by the NJAC All-Conference Team. Taylor Gretz, Maddie Bray, Liz Kramer, Kaitlyn Schneider, and Jess Havers were all selected for the efforts throughout the season.
Gretz was chosen to be the conferences Midfielder of the year. Both Bray and Kramer, the team’s leading, and second leading scorers, are going on their third-straight NJAC All-Conference first team recognition.
And this honor is a first for Schneider and Havers. Schneider has started every game and is known as the strongest off-ball defender. While Havers had an injury to her ACL last season that has set her back a lot, she came back hot this season and is the team’s third leading scorer.
These girls have everything they need to bring home a conference championship title this season. Sending best of luck to our Lady Prof’s in Ewing.
