From Soccer to Blogger, Abbey Marie’s Lifestyle Change – Blog Profile

Abbey Marie Zucker grew up in Marlton New Jersey with her mom and dad and her two older brothers. Being the baby girl of the family, she had to learn from a very young age how to play tough.

She started off playing hockey just like her brothers, but found her true love on the soccer field. Growing up she played travel soccer for Evesham Township and in an extremely selective PDA Team. By her freshman year of high school she was already starting on varsity.

By the time she was a graduating senior Abbey was offered the opportunity to play soccer for a handful of universities, but she surprised her friends and family by switching her life up entirely. She instead chose to move to Manhattan New York, and study at the Fashion Institute of Technology for Make-Up Creation and Marketing.

“I started the blog as a freedom of expression and it formed into something I can honestly be really proud of now,” said Abbey, “I feel like everyone always saw me as this tomb boy… I love soccer, and I always will, but that doesn’t mean that I am not allowed to love hair and make-up too… I feel like thats a huge problem with female athletes, they are expected to act in a certain way. Screw that.”

The Abbey Marie Blog for Beauty and Lifestyle helped to break Abbey out of her shell and show people there is more to her than meets the eye. She started the blog just towards the end of her senior year of high school and still keeps updating weekly in her junior year of college. She even expanded her blog into a YouTube channel which is just under 4,000 subscribers.

While this blog helped her feel more comfortable in her own skin, and gave her the freedom to talk about the things she loves, it has not always been easy for her.

“Between school-work, internships, and a part-time job, it is just hard to find the time no matter how much I love it,” she said, “but at the end of the day it is so worth it. It feels so rewarding to be published and I think that anyone who is passionate about something should start a blog, you never know what it could turn into.”

At the age of 21, Abbey’s work has been published in multiple articles is currently on her 3rd internship with different PR companies for beauty products. She has had the opportunity to be an ambassador for well-know beauty lines as well, and she credits this to the start of her blog.

Even though Abbey does not claim to be a journalist, she thinks blogging is a great stepping stone for anyone. All three of her internships mentioned at least one thing about her blog during their interview, which she says is such an exciting feeling. “Knowing powerful people have read and followed [her] work makes it very worth it.”

Now about to head into her senior year at FIT, Abbey never thought her life would take her here. She encourages all young female athletes to not let themselves to be put into a single bin.

“It’s okay to love more than one thing. You can be an amazing athlete but still be a girly-girl at heart. Just be you, being able to write about what I love makes me the happiest I’ve ever been, but you can still catch me out in Central Park with a soccer ball whenever I get the chance.”
