After a tough season the 15-11 Lady Prof’s fell short with a 77-71 overtime loss to Kean University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Semifinals. This loss not only put an end to the 2018-2019 season for the team, it put an end to their captain, Olivia Rulon’s, long-time basketball career.
“It is bittersweet for me,” Stated Rulon, “I knew the end was coming, whether it was going to be this game or the Championship game… I was hoping we would go out on top but I have a lot going on with school and my future career and I am exciting to see where that takes me, but basketball has been my life for as long as I can remember, I don’t think it has set in that, that part of my life is over.”
In the last game against 14-13 Kean University, the teams neck-and-neck at the tail end of the game. As Rowan was able to pull ahead by five making the score 52-47, Rulon did what she is known to do best, and she sunk a three. The Lady Prof’s were able to to a solid tied score of 61-61, but in overtime unfortunately could not pull through.
Since her Freshman year attending Rowan, Rulon has consistently broken her own records again, and again. Her strength has always been shooting three’s. This has helped carry the Rowan Basketball team to victory on many occasions, she was hoping it would be enough in this last game as it has in the past.
“Good was never good enough for me,” She stated, “I did not just want to come out and win, I always wanted to come out and be better than I was the game before or practice before.”
Rulon will continue her studies in education to eventually become an elementary school gym teacher. She hopes to help motivate all kids to be the best that they can be.
