Rowan University Softball has officially started back up and big things are already to be expected from this group of girls. Even though the Lady Prof’s are currently ranked fifth in the NFCA Divison III Poll, selected by eight coaches, they are still the pre-season favorites for the 2019 season.
In the last three years Rowan Softball has made it to the national championship twice, and are defending NJAC Champions from this past season. With much of last years team returning, their lineup looks stacked going into this season. Coach Kim Wilson has spoken out in the season preview about two stand-out athletes, Carly Anderson and Lauren Shannon, and how these two players, and the team are continuing to grow together and get stronger.
Wilson too, seems extremely confident for what this season has in store stating, “You have a target on your back and you are playing good teams, and in the end we will give you that experience that down the road when were in play-off’s time, we have already been there, we have already had these dog-fights.”
With all of the hype leading up into this season, having their opening game sequence at the Gram Slam Classic canceled is not entirely ideal. The team was supposed to play six games in Cary, North Carolina, but due to weather the tournament had to be canceled. The Lady Prof’s will now open their season at Salisbury University on Monday February, 25th at 1p.m.
However, the rest of their schedule is still packed having the team traveling to Maryland, Virginia, and spending a lot of time in Florida.
No matter what happens, this is going to be an exhilarating season for Rowan Softball.
